$10 Cap Bust Gold
Minted from 1797 - 1804, the $10 Cap Bust Eagle, also known as Turban Head Eagles, are among the most sought after gold coins minted in the United States. Only 132,592 were minted and most of those perished in the melting pots of Europe before their production was ordered halted by then President Thomas Jefferson. The $10 Eagle wouldn't make a return to production until 1838 with the $10 Liberty.
On the obverse Miss Liberty is depicted wearing a turban style cap and facing to the right. The reverse carries an Eagle and "united States of America" around the outside edge.
During its short production time the $10 Turban Head saw many varieties as was common with most coins of the day. Make no mistake, the $10 Cap Bust eagle is a high dollar coin because of its rarity. The mere mention of Turban Head Eagles excites all numimatists.
