Minted from 1906 - 1928 Bela Lyon Pratt's incused design of the $5 Indian Head gold half eagle is as sought after by today's collectors as it was controversial when first introduced. The obverse features a Native American Indian in headress facing left encircled by stars and the word LIBERTY. The designers intials are below the shoulder and directly above the year. The reverse features the vigilant eagle clutching an arrow tipped fasces wrapped in a an olive branch.

The Indian Head Half Eagle was the last $5 gold coin in general circulation in America, ending a 134 year period where only 3 years were skipped in the production of $5 Half Eagle gold coins.

Produced for only a short 22 year period the $5 Indian Head has become a favorite with collectors because of its unique in American coin history incuse design. Three years are key in a collection of this coin: 1909-D 1911-D and 1929.
